What’s Your Eye Shadow Color?

If you’re wondering what color shadow should I wear as we move into a new year, here’s a heads up for the experienced eye shadow wearer, and as for the novice shadow wearer who feels somewhat lost in the sea of available colors. Soft smoky eyes will be flattering to not only your eyes, but can also be complementary to your clothing as well.

Let’s be real, metallic colors are here to stay. Deep purples, cobalt blue, red and magentas add sophistication to the mix of available colors to satisfy any palette. And let’s not leave out gold, silver and those fabulous off-whites that are blended to create that neutral look.

Soft, Smoky Eyes: Joy Lorraine Cosmetics recommends a combination of silky eye shadows such as Tar, Platinum and Steel Blue Ice to achieve a look that will be envied by those around you. The key is to build on each color while getting lighter as you blend upwards.

Brown Eye Babes: bronze eye shadows are here to stay. This is especially true for the novice user who’s still trying to ease into that comfort zone of wearing eye shadows. Lining your eyes with an eye pencil such as Smoky Green will certainly harmonize those beautiful baby browns you were born with. Eyelids with Gold Bronze eye shadow, blended with colors such as Winter Grape for a muted look and eyes lined with Emerald eye pencil is a simple but elegant look for any eye shadow wearer. If you want more glamour then go for Pizzaz Loose Mineral Eye Dust, Teal Jewel eye shadow and Emerald eye pencil instead.

Everyday Wear: Women who would like to wear eye shadows, especially to work but don’t know how or fear wearing the deep blues or greens, I say stick to neutrals that flatter your skin tone. Unless you’re on the runway, neutral mattes such as Desert Sun, Medium Pink and Tan will blend effortlessly for an all day wear. For an enhanced look, add a subtle highlight on your brow bone (that area directly under your eyebrows) and they’ll certainly want you to show them how to achieve the look.

How to do it: use Tan eye shadow all over the eye as a base. Next, choose either Desert Sun or Medium Pink eye shadow and blend well with a good shadow brush on the eye area. Then, apply Honey Glow or Antique Gold on your brow bone to softly magnetize the entire eye area.

Finally, let’s not be afraid of those beautiful browns such as Copper Glaze that can be softly blended unto the lid area. And if you’re going out for the evening, consider a gel eyeliner in chocolate mousse for that all night staying power.

Wearing eye colors should not be a chore. Think outside the box and don’t be afraid to experiment with colors. Life is about color . . . Live It.
