Red is a timeless symbol of elegance, and will be the color on most women’s lips this holiday season. One cannot deny that color plays a part in how we feel, and adding color will enhance your celebration of the New Year with an immediate made-up look. Imagine wearing that red lipstick and liner to jazz up that gorgeous black outfit. With confidence and a little know-how, anyone can wear red lipstick. By understanding how to experiment with lip colors, a minor change can add a whole new look to your wardrobe.
If you’re wearing anything red for the New Year, staying in the same color family will keep you from making the wrong color choice. Dark skin looks great with deep reds such as our crème lipstick in C.J. or velvet matte lip color in Maracas for full-bodied coverage. The novice red wearer will look great wearing our Delicious super lip balm for daytime wear, and our Rare Rubies lip lacquer for the evening fanfare.
If that red lipstick is just too much, you can still show that hint of red by toning it down with lip glosses such as Twinkle Lip Gel, Copper Topper or Gold Finger Lip Lacquer. To keep lip color in place, try lining your lips with Beet or Cabernet lip liner. You can be discreet with your lip liner by blotting after lining your lips, and before applying your lipstick. Only you will know it’s there.
Your pearly whites will shine with brown reds such as Russel, Janine or Jasmine lipsticks. For the rich chocolate skin tone sisters, lipsticks such as Ingrid or Moruga topped off with Rhubarb super gloss will add definition and people will certainly take notice. If you want to be on the sheer side and don’t want to wear a lipstick, a good choice would be to wear the Rhubarb super gloss or Royal Plum lip lacquer. Not only will the fellahs take notice, but it will lift your spirit and enhance that radiant beauty that’s already yours.
Want your lipstick to last through lunch? Dusting your lips lightly with either loose or pressed powder will take you through lunch and beyond. Line your entire lips with your favorite lip liner, blot and dust lightly again. Follow immediately with your lipstick and add some gloss for a sheer moist look.
An astute lipstick wearer would have more than one lipstick color and texture in their makeup bag. It would be a good idea to keep a lipstick and lip liner in your car, desk and handbag so it’s always within your reach.
If you just don’t see yourself in any red lipstick at all, then choose a color according to your skin tone. If it looks good to you when you’re not wearing any makeup then it will look even better when your face is made up. A lipstick color that is at least 2 shades lighter or darker than your natural lip color will help guide you when choosing a lipstick you feel comfortable wearing. You can experiment with lipstick textures such as our velvet matte lip color in Siparia or crème texture in Belmont. These neutral lipsticks complement any skin tone and provide a safe haven for a neutral look.
Wearing lipstick will add the final touches to any of your daytime or evening wear. The lipstick that’s most suitable for you is the color that’s most flattering to your skin tone. A good lipstick color is a luxury you cannot afford to be without. So go ahead and apply that lipstick with a smile.
Your lipstick should enhance the beauty of your lips and whether you’re wearing red, or a neutral color, you may find that people will be drawn to you simply because of your lipstick.
