One of the biggest mistakes women make with eyeliner is thinking that blacks and kohl are for everyone. Unless you are of dark complexion or a woman of color, black and kohl can come across too severe rather then accenting your eyes. Another mistake that women of color do is thinking they are only limited to blacks and kohl. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Women of color look great in eyeliners of espresso, deep browns, dark greens, and even blue.
When you use eyeliner, you want the effect to be subtle, enough to enhance but not so much to look severe. To achieve an everyday wear look, use a light hand and work with an eyeliner color that matches closer to your natural eyelash color. Start your liner just a touch past where your pupil lays center and bring it to the outer most part of your lash line. Do not put eyeliner on the lower lid of your eye.
When trying to achieve the fashionable smoky eye look, follow up behind your eyeliner with a blending brush. Start from the inside corner of your eye and work out to the outermost part of your lash line. Return to the center of the eye and thicken the line just a bit. With your eyeliner blending brush, gently blend/smudge the eyeliner to remove the sharpness of the line. After toning down your line, then apply a light layer of the eye shadow using to get the smoke effect over the liner.
For a bolder evening look go ahead and use your liner darker. Rather than only doing ¾ of your lash line, go ahead and line your entire lid right along the lash line. Add some smoky gray or black eye shadow across the liner to give even more of a dramatic look. Do not forget to blend.
