It’s heating up outdoors, which means summer skin care is on everyone’s minds. While most people turn to just using a sunscreen to prevent burning, there is a lot more to having gorgeous skin in the summer months than just wearing sunscreen. Read Below...

While gorgeous skin comes from within, what you eat really does affect the condition of your skin. Eating healthy and keeping your skin well hydrated will help to keep skin looking its best. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables are not only loaded with skin saving moisture, but they contain vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants to help you look good, and give your skin the added boost for optimum health. Dehydration can give your skin an ashy look and make small wrinkles more visible.
Everyone knows they need to moisturize their skin even in the summer. But before you moisturize, remove the dead layer of skin cells by exfoliation. Doing so will allow your skin to absorb the nutrients in the moisturizer more effectively, and help the new skin stay healthy and supple. When exfoliating your skin, be gentle as attempting to remove dry, flaky patches with harsh scrubbing will only irritate and make things worse. Products containing synthetic beads will exfoliate your skin with less force, so stay clear of salt or sugar scrubs which can be rough on the skin.
The harsh summer months are not particularly friendly for those with dry skin. As the layers of clothing worn in the winter months are shed to enjoy the beach, spending time in and out of the water causes evaporation of the skin’s natural moisture. Additionally, salt and chlorine from being at the beach or at the pool break down the lipid barriers of the skin, leaving it feeling even drier.
If you have dry skin, stay away from alcoholic beverages, coffee or sodas that contain caffeine. While these beverages seem relaxing, they are diuretics which promote the excretion of water from the body. If you have oily skin and are prone to breakouts, stay away from fatty foods as these can increase the incidence of breakouts.
Drink at least eight glasses of water while you’re on the beach or at the pool. Drink up even when you are not thirsty, since the sun can dehydrate our bodies more than we realize. Showering immediately after being in the pool or at the beach will wash off any salt or chemicals from your skin which can also make skin feel dry.
Wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen will also help to maintain healthy skin. A good example is Joy Lorraine’s Solar Defender SPF 28 UVA/UVB Moderate Protection Sunscreen which is water-resistant and offers protection from burning UVB and aging UVA rays.
These few simple tips do not take much of your time and will have you looking great all summer long.
